Manage Users, Roles & Permissions in ApiManager
ApiManager makes it easy for an account owner or administrator to add team members, assign roles, and control what each user can do inside the app. This is perfect for families, small teams, and commercial beekeeping operations managing the same apiary data together.
With user management in ApiManager you can add multiple users under one account, assign roles, and optionally fine-tune access to app sections and features.
- Add multiple users to the same account
- Assign roles: Queen (full access), Bee (full content control), Drone (read-only)
- Customize access to specific features and sections
- Track who created, edited, or performed inspections and other actions
- Keep your apiary records organized and secure across your whole team
Why user roles matter in a beekeeping operation
In a shared beekeeping workflow, different people often need different access. One person may manage all records, another may enter inspections and treatments, while others only need to review what happened in the apiary. Roles in ApiManager help you keep control of your data while making teamwork smooth.
User roles in ApiManager
A user role is a set of permissions that defines what a user can do inside the application. ApiManager offers three clear roles that fit real beekeeping teamwork:
Queen — full access
The Queen role is intended for account owners and trusted administrators. Queens have access to all app features and can add, edit, and delete records, including records created by others.
Bee — full content control
The Bee role is for active team members who manage day-to-day work in the apiary. Bees can add, edit, and delete records across content sections. You can further refine what they see and use with feature access settings.
Drone — read-only
The Drone role is ideal for users who only need to review data. Drones have view permissions and cannot change records. You can still limit or grant access to specific sections depending on your workflow.
Queen role is intended for account owners and trusted administrators.
Be careful who you grant full control of your ApiManager account.
Track activity: know who did what
ApiManager helps you keep a clear history of actions across the account. You can see who created records, who edited them, and who performed inspections or other work. This is especially helpful when multiple people manage the same apiaries and hives.
How to add a new user
- Open Users in the ApiManager menu.
- Tap/click Create (Add User).
- Enter the user’s email (unique identifier), first name, last name, and username.
- Assign a role: Queen, Bee, or Drone.
- Optionally customize access to specific features and sections.
- Save. The new user can now log in and access your shared beekeeping data according to their permissions.
Best practices
- Limit Queen access to only the account owner and trusted administrators.
- Use Bee for active beekeepers who enter inspections, treatments, feedings, and harvests.
- Use Drone for viewing only (e.g., trainees, helpers, or stakeholders).
- Review permissions occasionally, especially before peak season work starts.
