Where queen status is recorded
Queen information is recorded inside the Inspection form. Each inspection can store the current queen status and related notes.
Common queen status options
- Seen — queen was visually observed.
- Not Seen — queen not observed, but signs may be present.
- Laying — eggs or fresh brood observed.
- Not Laying — no eggs observed.
- Virgin — newly emerged virgin queen.
- Missing — queen likely absent.
- Queen Cells Present — supersedure or swarm cells found.
Exact options may vary depending on your inspection template.
Step-by-step: Recording queen status
- Open Inspections from the ApiManager menu.
- Tap/click Create.
- Select the apiary and hive.
- Scroll to the Queen or Queen Status section.
- Select the appropriate queen status.
- Add notes if needed.
- Save the inspection.
Recording a queen change
When you replace or introduce a new queen:
- Open a new inspection.
- In the Queen section, mark the status reflecting the change (for example: New Queen Introduced or Virgin Queen).
- Add notes such as source, color marking, or introduction method.
- Save the inspection.
Queen changes are stored as part of inspection history.
Reviewing queen history
- Open a hive.
- Go to the Inspections tab.
- Review past inspections for queen-related entries.
This gives you a timeline of queen performance and changes.
Best practices
- Record queen status at every inspection.
- Use notes to document markings, age, or origin.
- Track queen problems early (poor laying, missing).
- Review queen history before requeening decisions.
Consistent queen tracking helps you improve colony performance and make better management decisions.
